Overview
People living with chronic illness experience a series of often invisible and compounding losses that affect identity, relationships and daily life. While hope for recovery may remain, this may or may not be found, and in addition, the reality of ongoing symptoms can bring uncertainty and emotional distress. This webinar explores how counselling can provide meaningful support by embracing presence, humility and a willingness to ‘not know’. We will examine how to build collaborative, compassionate relationships that help clients make sense of who they are amid disruption and ongoing change.
In this webinar we'll explore
- The recurring and complex losses associated with chronic illness
- Why many people with chronic illness feel misunderstood by medical and care systems
- What counselling can offer in response to these experiences
- The importance of humility, respect and attuned presence in this work
- How to support meaning-making and identity when life feels ‘undone’
- Ways to explore liveable narratives in the face of uncertainty
