Our content is applicable to a\nwide variety of professions including counsellors, social workers,\nteachers, emergency response teams, medical, corrections, mental\nhealth, hospice, volunteers, caregivers and more. \n\nOVERVIEW\n\nThis interactive (through the chat function) webinar explores the\nbackground, the research, the appropriate language, the challenges,\nthe benefits, and, underlining it all, the mental health and wellbeing\nof those who identify as neurodiverse, and how we can best support\nthem.\n\nToday, neurodiversity has evolved from a focus on neurodivergent\nindividuals who may have a formal diagnosis of a developmental or\nlearning disability such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD),\nattention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia or\ndyscalculia, to also embrace a broader group of people who may\nself-identify as neurodivergent.\n\nOur understanding of ‘neurodiversity’ has widened extensively\nsince Australian sociologist, Judy Singer, on the autism spectrum\nherself, coined the term in the late 1990s in acknowledgement that\neveryone’s brain develops uniquely. At the time, she wanted to shift\nthe idea that autism was a disability, rather viewing it as natural\nvariance in neurobiology. She defined it as a social justice movement\nthat promoted equality for what she called ‘neurological\nminorities’; people whose brains work in atypical ways. \n\nIn a broad sense, the term ‘neurodiversity’ acknowledges that all\nhuman brains and minds differ from one another. As professionals, it\nis essential that we consider the potential challenges, loss and grief\nthat neurodiverse people often experience in a neurotypical world.\n\nKEY LEARNING POINTS\n\n * Exploring the neurodiversity paradigm, including the associated\nterminology\n * Insight into common neurodiverse developmental and learning\ndisabilities - Australian and New Zealand statistics\n * Current research, particularly related to mental health and\nwellbeing; the growing awareness of the benefits of neurodiversity\n * Neurodiversity in the workplace: challenges, strengths, benefits,\nchanges, and support\n * Supporting neurodiverse clients - those with a formal diagnosis of\na developmental or learning disability, and those people who\nself-identify as neurodiverse\n * Resources and additional readings.\n\nWEBINAR REGISTRATION DETAILS\n\n * Access to the live two-hour webinar\n * Access to the webinar recording for 30 days\n * Access to a downloadable PDF handout\n * Certificate of accomplishment issued on completion of a short quiz\n * Access to CPD points\n\nCERTIFICATE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT\n\nWe can provide a certificate of accomplishment for all our training\ncourses. The requirement for receiving a certificate to confirm\nprofessional development is as follows:\n\n * You must view a minimum of 80% of a live-presented\nwebinar workshop _OR_\n * You must view a minimum of 80% of a recorded webinar workshop\n * You must complete a short quiz on the webinar content\n\nCPD POINTS/CREDITS\n\nWe are _ACCREDITED_ to provide points/credits to the following\nOrganisations, Educational Institutes, and Associations:\n\nNEW ZEALAND\nFDANZ\nNZEA\nNZFIH\n\nAUSTRALIA\nAROH\n\nOur training is _ENDORSED OR RECOMMENDED_ by the following\nOrganisations, Educational Institutes, and Associations:\n\nNEW ZEALAND\nCANZ\n\nDAPAANZ\nNZSDRT\nThe CPD Group\n\nAUSTRALIA\nACWA\nACA (Australian Counselling Association)\n\nTo receive your CPD points/credits, you will need to receive a\ncertificate of accomplishment which you can then provide to your\nrelevant institution.\n\n \n - events@griefcentre.org.nz - https://book.griefcentre.org.nz/neurodiversity3
