DESCRIPTION:WHO SHOULD VIEW THIS WEBINAR RECORDING?\n\nAnyone who works in a professional care role or supports people\nthrough all forms of loss and grief. Our content is applicable to a\nwide variety of professions including counsellors, social workers,\nteachers, emergency response teams, medical, corrections, mental\nhealth, hospice, volunteers, caregivers and more. \n\nOVERVIEW\n\nAll cultures have traditions, protocols, and customs that shape how\nthey deal with dying, death, and loss. These impact the ways in which\npeople are able to understand and experience grief and their ongoing\nconnections (or lack thereof) with those who have died. In te ao\nMāori, death is seen as a transition rather than an end, with the\ndeceased believed to join their ancestors in the spiritual world.\nGrief is a communal process that involves the extended whānau and\ncommunity, providing a supportive environment for mourning and\nremembrance.\n\nRangi will share the journey of a large whānau, focussing on the\nimpacts of death on each individual member. She will illustrate how\nthe effects of loss, grief, death, and dying can vary for each person\nas they support one another through the process. Rangi will explain\nhow tikanga guides tangihanga. She will include discussion of the ways\nin which the values of tika, pono, aroha, manaakitanga are woven\nthrough the process and highlight the central practices of karakia and\nwaiata, roles and role-players in the communal occasion of mourning\nand remembering.
