Overview
Assisted dying is the latest addition to NZ health services with implications for service users, their families, and health professionals.
The grief and bereavement experience of family and friends who have lost a loved one with assisted death is poorly understood worldwide. With some community members and the societal environment expressing strong views about assisted death, some families may hesitate to disclose the manner of death, thus complicating the grief and bereavement outcomes. The need for secrecy and fear of societal stigma and judgement attached to assisted dying may also impact the quantity and quality of social and professional support needed.
This webinar will explore assisted dying and the patients’ and families' unique journey of dying using such service and its impact on the dying and bereavement experience.
